Reflections on Friendship

Lucky for you God spoke to me this morning, ....well, practically all day and.... I couldn't wait to share.

Sometimes I think God speaks to us in the most amazing ways. It is beyond our comprehension what God can do for us as well as how much He loves us. Out of nowhere we can be rescued from a miserable day, a hurtful thought, harsh words that we keep playing over in our minds, or a roller coaster of emotions that we cannot pull ourselves away from. I don't know about you but I have a definite friend in Jesus and almost just as precious as that relationship is, God provides me with those friends in my life who completely fill my cup with what God has in store for me. I am so blessed in the friends department for sure!

The older I get and the more I reflect on the true meanings for what my life should be, I realize that people who do not lift you up, who do not have your best interests at heart, who quite frankly are only "there" because it is convenient for them, will eventually disappear. I am a firm believer that some people come into our lives for a reason and some of them come into our lives for a season.  I think about so many one-sided friendships that I have had over the years and many of them were either not pleasing unto the Lord or they were so exhausting that I just could not give them the effort any more. It's funny how God knows just what you need when you need it....

Case in point......I had to go to Raleigh today for a meeting which lasted ALL day. However, it was right across the street from one of my dearest friends, so I got to have what I call a "power lunch." For about 45 minutes I experienced sheer delight just being in her presence. Every time I see her it's like I get this spark of enthusiasm, and so many reminders of what God has done for me. I have absolutely no idea how I survived Meredith College, but what I do know is that God provided the way through all the people He put in my path and with very little Faith (at the time), I survived and rebounded. I would not trade my experience for anything. The blessing of a Godly friendship comes straight from Him and He knew just the people I needed in my life.

Lately, I've been carrying around a lot of burdens for people that I love a great deal. I was reminded today that reaching out and letting Him help me can pull me out of whatever is taking over my emotions and thoughts. All I have to do is let God handle it! Why is that so difficult? Simple answer: I try to do everything myself and that does not always work out so well. If God can rescue me from a bad situation, and completely turn my life around, He can do it for anyone. Even when we have no idea how we will make it, God will give us what we need. Then, when we reflect on what God has done for us, it makes us stronger, and only then we can see how far we have come.

Everyone have a great Tuesday night and an awesome Wednesday!
